Saturday, September 20 was coastal clean up day. The Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay joined other organizations along the coast and all over the country cleaning up our beaches and coastal areas.

We had a successful clean up day at Venice Beach. Compared to last year's Highway 1 traffic burden, the overcast and light drizzle appeared to keep a lot of folks at home, both for us and other groups; and it was a little damp (but no downpour this year!).

Participation - 5 Rotarians (Liz, Paul W, Denali, Maya, Dan); four Rotary friends/family (Aleah & super-Weimeraner-trash-pointer-Lucy
Munro, Glenn Kesselmann, Lynn Baumann); plus one four-person family recently moved to San Mateo from Utah, drafted when they arrived to give the 5- and 3-yr-old boys a beach morning (parents felt this was excellent public-responsibility demo for the kids).
Resources - Park Ranger Angie and representatives from Friends of State Parks provided trash bags & disposable gloves, passed out free-full-day-parking passes to volunteers, and collected our "finds" to be part of the highest-weight-gathered competition among the local Park sites. Tho we didn't get a final weight count, a goodly pile of at least a dozen bags had accumulated when we left, to be added to by Friends'
volunteers later in the day.

Awesomes - a 3-member dolphin pod cruised slowly thru the shallows by our section of beach just at as we were getting to work; apparently approved what they saw, and didn't return.
