Today's program, the State of the  Club and of the Foundation, offered an overview on what the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay has done this year.

The theme for this year, emphasized club President Warren Barmore, is doing good in the community and in the world. And in that direction, we are making a difference. Currently our membership numbers 45, of which about 50 to 60 percent attend weekly meetings regularly, with one new member recently added and additional prospective members to come.
Warren referred to the recent poll of the members, on what the club should start doing, stop doing, keep or change. About 13 surveys were returned, and indicated that everyone in the club is satisfied. We are a club that is active and engaged, and Warren will continue to invite feedback from the club on its activities.
The funds that we use to make that difference come largely from two major events that support local charity work and community projects: Magic of the Coastside, which has raised more than $17,000 for our foundation, with a repeat performance expected on June 2, 2018; and Pumpkin Festival chowder sales, which raised at least $8,000.
The club budget is $85,000, with current assets of $21,000. The Foundation has total assets of $22,200.
Club Directors were then asked for updates on what we have done and what we will do in the coming year:
Renee Lewis, holding a large teddy bear just given to her, updated Club Administration and Fun. She spoke of the Rotary Club's first-time participation in Night of Lights and the trip to see the elephant seals at Ano Nuevo. Suggested ideas for future fun events include a visit to Filoli in the spring, and a potluck dinner, for which suggestions of dates were invited.
Vocational Committee Chair Charise McHugh gave an update on the committee, specifically the Life Skills events at Pescadero and Half Moon Bay high schools, and the Big Coyote/Little Coyote program at Pilarcitos High School.
Community Service Director Shana Reilly-Pond pointed out how what she does is one of the most rewarding experiences she has had, largely because she is not doing it herself but is joined by club members rallying to community service and rolling up their sleeves. As examples, she cited the free community breakfasts served in conjunction with Abundant Grace Coastside Worker, which grew out of a suggestion that the Club wanted to address homelessness in our community. She also mentioned beach and Carter Park cleanup days; dictionaries for Coastside third-graders, and the Rainy Day project, for which participants stand by to mobilize on a certain day of the month if the weather is rainy, to do what they can for those in need affected by the bad weather.
During the Community Service presentation, Michael Arase-Barham thanked the club for help in his backpack drive.
Ed Daniels was not at the meeting to report on International Service, but Warren noted that at the club's recent board meeting, $2,000 in District Designated Funds were approved for agricultural projects in Peru. He also reiterated the need to continue our giving for polio eradication.
Also under the heading of Community Service, the Club Foundation has pledged $75,000 to $100,000 to sponsor a Rotary Literacy room at the new Half Moon Bay Library.
Looking ahead, the Club Nominating Committee (former Club Presidents, current President and President Elect) met to review and nominate members eligible for President-Elect and board positions. Warren called for a verbal vote, of simply saying "Aye," for confirmation of Teresa Adam as president-elect for the year 2019-2020, which was met with a hearty response from those present.
Director positions currently open include membership, community service and club administration. Brian Lee's name was raised for the membership position and approved. Dianne Bobko will continue to serve on the Foundation board. There was a call for a verbal confirmation of nomination of Elizabeth  Schuck also for the Foundation board, which was also approved.
There is also an Investment Committee directing the club's investment account at Charles Schwab; Robin Jeffs will continue to serve on that committee along with Warren and another investment professional from the community.
