Program: Brian Lee SHOP TALK
Born in Canada in 1959 Brian moved a lot while young from Vancouver to Masschustts to Puerto Rico to Lodi to San Francisco in 1988 where he worked in the restaurant business. He had a brother and sister-in-law living on the Coast and came down to give it a try and has been in HMB for 21 years.
Brian believes in Wisdom and Thriving, and he lights up when making this statement making it abundantly clear that he really does! This leads to a better experience for all of us and for our kids. Maybe it is not easy to earn more, learn more, loose weight. Jobs and relationships are not perfect; we naturally get to tolerate...not thrive. He used the green pea analogy in which some conditions of soil, sun and watering produce thriving pants.
Humans have choices and mobility, we can optimize life as we improve things. Don't ask what the world needs, ask what makes you thrive! Passion if the jet fuel of life...so important!
What happiness is there if you are on a job you hate? This is a very detrimental situation to find oneself in and every effort must be made to remediate it. Brain told the story of a rich British Lady who loved to sew but it was considered mundane and beneath her station and without it she was miserable/depressed so her therapist prescribed her to sew an hour a day and it worked!
It is not always easy to find your passion, always ask others and learn and connect with that in you leading to your passion. Sometimes it is really hard to pursue your passion. Brian played guitar and took up the violin at 21 years old. He was inconsistent- not playing for long periods; and it was very hard to pick it up again taking a month to do. He had an epiphany leading him to get right back into it in after just a day or two because it was so important, so passionate. Brian then described another of his passions, the adventure of bicycle racing. He was good on hills, but he had to work very hard to overcome his belief he couldn't win. He described winning a tough race, and then he had to ask himself what else was he missing due to this belief.
There is so much unrealized potential - we can all have amazing lives but it is not easy.
Another example of passion was his mother-in-law Agnes who slept on an ironing board until 4 years old ;in NY had five kids and developed the gift of relationships with kids. At 80 she was down on the floor talking to them and listening = amazing connecting. Maureen 65 years pen pals @ 14 years old.
Wisdom is especially important for his kids, The choices we make and the chances we take.
He said he was put on this earth to thrive, inspire others to thrive and to help them to thrive. He wants to learn to be kinder to myself when he doesn't live up to his hopes or expectations.
Learn to walk as an example of encouragement given no matter how many falls. No friends, wasn't very friendly or nice to people when sol friends. Lonely no more thrive job to lift other up!

Violin; cut finger badly, it needed 21 stitches. He played wth bandages every day getting better. Decided to play better than ever - learns right hand bow work to succeed. Brian then played a wonderful piece for us with eyes open and some body English for which he received a standing ovation,
Thrive is passion!
Brian is willing to coach anyone to Thrive.
Brian bought a house in 1999 through local realtor Patrick O'Brien who then did a good job mentoring him as he chose to enter the Real Estate Business.
He concluded saying that he was painfully shy as a boy. Toastmasters helped him overcome his shyness. There is a local chapter now meeting at the Adcock Center.
