The meeting was a magical event in which President Liz noted and acknowledged all those who helped with the successful, recent Magic of the Coastside. Throughout lunch she acknowledged and handed out certificates of appreciation and thanks to just about everyone!
coming District Conference, and Prez Liz closed the meeting by inviting those present to help themselves to the beads and other Magic items from the event that now decorated the tables.

The list includes:
Catherine Yaque pulled off a delicious dinner for 200. Mary Rogren met with success with the auction, which brought in more than $16,000, and Susan Shapira found similar success with sponsorship which brought in around $17,000.
Dianne Bobko headed the Service Above Self award committee, and also worked with tickets, marketing and the overall event.
Dave Dickson helped with tickets.
Rosi Fontana helped with event setup and in the kitchen.
Christine Quinn served as the "secret shopper," helping with decorations and with getting items needed to make the dinner a success.
Wes Burgess secured the entertainment and had a record success with the raffle.
Linda Crose-Anderson, along with Mitone Griffiths, helped get together the student helpers for the evening.
Warren Barmore was instrumental in overall planning, plus event setup and takedown.
Paul Wrubel helped with the arrangement of the room, including the auction items and furniture, and worked with the I.D.E.S. Society members beginning days before the event.
Joe Brennan ran the bar and its crew.
Dave Andrews helped transport items for the event and auction from storage.
Teresa Adam helped with setup for the evening.
Dick Charnock was acknowledged as a sponsor.
Ginger Minoletti was acknowledged for her help with the event setup, with the auction and as a sponsor.
Irwin Cohen helped with the takedown after the event.
Dave Cresson was thanked as a sponsor.
Ed Daniels was thanked for his help with setup, with the bar and with takedown.
EJ Dieterle was thanked for donating auction items.
Bonnie Dunham was acknowledged for her help in taking the photos for the life-size forms of the Service Above Self award finalists.
John Evans helped with tickets and setup.

Exchange student Caroline Gossart was acknowledged for a lot of help behind the scenes.

Bill Johnston helped in the kitchen, and his wife Ayn Johnston represented him at the meeting.

Dianne Bobko thanked the Rotary members of the SAS Judges Panel - Wes Burgess, Ginger Minoletti, EP, Dwight Wilson, and she talked about the process of selecting the Service Above Self finalists and award recipient, describing how it involved sifting through application forms and a lot of behind-the-scenes work. She mentioned how people who serve and help others and stand out for their service. Rose pointed out that Mike Serdy had been humbled and touched by having been nominated.
President Liz, who received a standing ovation at the meeting for her leadership during the event, mentioned comments that she had heard from people who praised the Magic of the Coastside for the quality of its food. She also mentioned Rotary's benefiting the HEAL project.
Other Rotarians gave comments about the evening, including Mitone Griffiths mentioning how lovely the auction items' displays were and how people raved about the evening's entertainer, magician Tom Ogden. Dave mentioned how the other entertainer, magician Suzanne, was known for stumping Penn & Teller. Robin praised how well the event had been organized.
Ginger updated everyone on her mother-in-law who had taken a fall on the stairs at Magic, saying she is doing well.
Prez Liz noted that we should soon have a final figure as to how much was raised by the event. She mentioned that even Rotarians' children were promoting the event on that evening.
Eric suggested making a gesture of appreciation to the I.D.E.S. members for their help and support, and Liz responded that Dave was working on a proclamation for the I.D.E.S. Ginger mentioned the helpers around the bar, and suggested how their participation could serve as a model for a service project.

Someone also suggested that a Service Above Self category for young members of the community could be created. Liz explained that we have already been doing that for the last 3 years, but decided that since the students haven't been able to attend Magic the last couple of years because of the HS play, we will recognize the recipient as part of the High School Scholarship night event. Students have already been nominated and selected.

Happy/Not So Happy News
Irwin Cohen announced that Bob Rube will be on the Coast 4/29
Caroline Gossart was just back from Honolulu with 55 youth exchange student from the West Coat, home just in time to appear in the HMBHS production of Fiddler and then on to Montery Bay and the Aquarium “simply amazing”. The following Thursday went with Host Mom Mary Rogren to SoCal for son Ian’s wedding and visited Pismo Beach. Next week she is off to NY and Philadelpia for spring break!
John Evans is heading to Reno via train to be a judge at the N.Cal and Nevada Trampoline champioinship.

Warren Barmore shared happy/crappy news about his family. His brother and sister-in-law broke a years long estrangement with his mother – very touching and moving. The sad part it involved his nephew’s tragic death in a swimming accident.
Announcements:

DG Jeri reminded us about the District Conference May 5th, 6th, and 7th. On Saturday night the 6th the big club awards will be given out and on Sunday the 7th our very own Pres Liz will be the MC – don’t want to miss that.
She also advised that the Club Baskets that we all participated in brought in $300K including 3 Arch Klumpf donors and a lot of other crazy Rotarians giving money for the Foundation! District 5150 (that’s us) is now #1 in the world for RI Foundation giving…..and that results in a lot of money flowing back to the district for our projects!
