President Paul conducted the meeting with a slideshow running in the background featuring highlights from the grand opening of the splendid new library that Rotary helped sponsor.Warren, who perennially wins the persistently professionally attired award, lead the pledge. Greeter Rose shared an inspirational thoughts with us. To paraphrase: “the world is divided into those who do and those who seek credit and there’s a lot less competition for those who do“

Visitors included Tyler Clifford who was down here from Redding escaping the fires. Liz introduced Al Adreveno whom she ran into at the library opening. Al is a charter member of our club and a past mayor of our city. He was the mayor when the first library was constructed. Al’s Driver was another former mayor and a good friend of Rotary, farmer John Muller. Stacy’s guest was Caroline Martin and Warren brought his mom.

Happy news began with Kevin throwing $20 into the pot and in acknowledgement of his wedding anniversary celebration. Kevin also pinned Dave Andrews as the new foundation chair. David just completed the foundation training at the Bay Model and he brought back a name plate for Mary Rosen who has been appointed by the district governor to serve as chair of the district youth exchange. Diane reported on a very successful “dinner with an astronaut“ event which she and Bo had offered as an auction prize at our Magic fundraiser. The winners of the prize included a 14-year-old Space cadet and his parents and grandparents. One of the grandparents was a past president of a Rotary club and they were alerted to the event by a friend who follows Bidding for Good. Diane also reported that opera tickets that she had donated were picked up by a man in Los Angeles who wanted a birthday surprise for his wife. Paul also reported that he and his wife celebrated an anniversary and that they Went out to dinner with the O’Briens for the event.

Paul awarded “Wrubies” To Michael, Heather, Diane, Stacy, Rosie and Liz for their participation in the library grand opening.Mary and introduced exchange students, Lucas from Germany and Gianna (I’m not sure I got that name right) from Italy. Both were remarkably articulate and And both seem to be delightful young people. They were in the process of getting oriented at the high school and Lucas has made a commitment meant to cross country and Gianna to tennis. There are two other exchange students in Mill Valley from France and the Canary Islands.

Gianna told us that she is from Genoa and that she is wearing her mother’s jacket. Lucas is from near Hamburg and he is a triathlon athlete.

Liz reported that funds that we donated had been used by the Coastside children’s program for specialized math training and she also told us that we have adopted the Venice Beach for a coastal cleanup to take place on September 15. She solicited volunteers.

Stacy brought us a flag from the Rotary club that she visited in Morelia, Mexico. Mitoni reported that she survived her trip to Japan where she climbed Mount Fuji. She said that altitude sickness is a real thing.

EJ reported on a very busy Octoberfest schedule. He is booked all over the Bay Area. Something about fundraisers involving older men with beautiful legs or, perhaps, lederhosen and German squeezeboxes.

The balance of the meeting was devoted to Rotarians sharing their experiences at the opening of our amazing new library.
