The speaker was Angelo Carotenuto from LivItaly brought to us by Ginger Minoletti.
He has been a tour guide since 2005.  As a youth he spent his summers in Rome and sang with his father who was a conductor.  He worked for several tour companies and realized there was a need for smaller, more intimate tour groups that would allow clients to live the stereotypes like the Italians.  They offer Vatican museum tours, cooking classes in an Italian kitchen with a little old Italian lady, wine tours around atypical regions where the wine is grown on lava, boat trips around the Amalfi Coast, treasure hunts for children, Segway tours, food tours, gondola rides and many other fun activities.

    T

he tour guides are usually with 6 people rather than 25 or so.  Their tours are sustainable so that future generations will be able to enjoy them also (eg having 6 people in the fresco in the Vatican so the temperature and humidity are not disturbed).

In 2012 he met Christine who started out as a roommate and then became a business partner, and now they have a baby.  She was from Sweden and was a logistics expert which there really wasn’t any need for in Italy.  He offered her a partnership, and they increased their business 300% in the next 2 years.  The biggest challenge is to keep everything new and fresh.  Their latest dream-come-true is a pair of cardboard 3D glasses that allows the viewer to go back in time and see the city as it was in the past by downloading an app and viewing it with the glasses.  He then gave away a pair of the glasses to anyone that wanted them.

Happy/Not So Happy News
Caroline Gossart, our exchange student, indicated she did a presentation at the Los Gatos Rotary Club, and she said we were still the best club. This Friday is the high school’s last basketball game.  Monday she has her initial visitation at Stanford University.
Dave Andrews, as only he can, talked about his three latest experiences:  1) smoking his cigar in Bill Johnston’s new car and getting kicked out;  2) watching TV with his cigar in Kevin O’Brien’s home while working on his water problem and getting kicked out; and 3) not able to find parking and missing the dictionary distribution at Hatch School.
Kevin O’Brien did share that Dave Andrews did do an excellent job with his water problem.  He thanked Warren Barmore for his efforts to get the dictionaries to Hatch School. He warned all the older members that getting dehydrated in our old age may land us in the ER.  Also beware of sharp cutting knives.
EJ Dieterle was traveling again to visit his mom and only made one Rotary meeting.

Birthdays ---- Teresa Adam acknowledged Robin Jeff’s and Ralph Ely’s birthdays with a song and gifts.
