OCTOBER 18, 2018 CLUB MEETING - Celebrating the Success of Pumpkin Festival Chowder Booth

President Paul congratulated everyone for all their efforts to make this our most profitable Pumpkin Festival for the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay.
He proceeded with PP Liz Schuck’s assistance to distribute finely printed parchment certificates to the following.

A Special Acknowledgement was announced - The Presidential Special Award Exemplifying SERVICE ABOVE SELF was awarded to Ayn Johnston for her long hours and dedicated efforts contributing to the project’s great success.

There was a discussion on the floor of the point raised by Ralph Ely of raising the price. Ginger pointed out that it was raised this year and coordinated with drink prices for easy change making.

Also discussed was the possibility of taking charge cards.

Liz challenged members to come up with the best bread pudding recipe.

Next Year the dates for Pumpkin Festival are October 19th & 20th

President Paul waxed poetic about the good aspects of us all pulling together to achieve a common goal…and succeeding!
He Thanked everyone for such a wonderful experience saying it filled his head with Joy and Pride to be a Rotarian!

Table of Plenty Wine Tasting will be on November 7th this year in support of their Thursday evening free community dinner program.

Stacy Trevenon just returned from Santa Fe where Doug where she visited with family and friends.  She presented the club with the Rotary club flag of Santa Fe.
Steve Wilson returned from meetings in Athens.  They also closed on a vacation home in Clear Lake.
Kevin O’Brien returned from a wedding celebration in Ashland, Oregon over the week end. Beautiful wedding and beautiful weather and area.  Donated $50 towards being absent from Pumpkin Festival.  Thank you Kevin.
Rosi Fontana’s granddaughter helped over the week end and had a great time.
John Evans reminded club of Fall Leadership training available.
Mitone Griffith’s daughter Mia is Interact club president, and they raised over $3600 for Pumpkin Festival.
President Paul announced that this year’s Pumpkin Festival event made the more money than prior years.  Crowds were huge and profits high and may have been the result of the Parade Grand Marshall Hunter Pence.  We sold out before 4 p.m on Sunday. 
 
 
Wrubey Awards
 
President Paul gave out Pumpkin Festival Wrubey awards and asked for some comments from each of the following:
 
Heather Bodman , Rose Serdy, Irwin Cohen, Mary Rogren, Dianne Bobko, Joe Brennan, Bill Johnston, Liz Schuck, Jim Tjogas, Ralph Ely, Warren Barmore and daughter, Rosi Fontana, Julie Mell, Renee Lewis, Dave Dickson and wife, Marla, Dave Andrews and others present and  not present. 
 
Ayn Johnston got the President’s official recognition award for outstanding service on Friday evening.  Lukas, our exchange student, got recognition of his back handed scoop for the chowder.  Giada, wowed the club with her efficiency in getting the bowls out to the customers.
 
Although President Elect, Teresa Adam was on her much deserved family cruise, her organizational skills had help Paul and Liz with the event and she brought back them back gifts.  She also paid for many of the supplies as a donation.
 
John Evans in the past helped with clean up and would show up at 5 p.m.' but by the time he got to the booth all was done.  Great volunteer participation.
 
The club received some feedback from members, i.e., no objections to cost of bowls, refills should be in cup and not bread bowl. 
 
The club continued on with comments and reveled in the success of another Pumpkin Festival 2018!!!!! 
 
REMINDERS
 
Our Monthly Rotary Day at the Community Free Breakfast (held at the Lutheran Church will be Wednesday, OCTOBER 31.  Please sign up with ROSE SERDY for a shift for future days (last Wednesday of each month.)
