ROTARY MARCHES IN HMB 4TH OF JULY PARADE

Thursday may be the regular meeting day for the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay, but this one happened to fall on the Fourth of July. So the regular meeting did not take place, but on the nation’s holiday, Half Moon Bay Rotarians weren’t idle. Some 16 Rotarians, plus a couple of spouses and a couple of dogs, marched in the (as usual) lively and colorful noontime Ol’ Fashioned Fourth of July parade down Main Street.

Those included club President Irwin Cohen with his First Lady Nancy Wolfberg, Kevin O’Brien, Ed Daniels, Mitone Griffiths, Warren Barmore, Paul Wrubel, Mary Rogren and Phil, Pat Roma, new HMB Rotarian Mike Osborne, Heather Bodmann, Susan Kealey and Dennis Fisher, Clark Hobbie's daughter Kate, and Stacy Trevenon and Doug Mallon.  (Sorry if I left anyone out.). And not marching but cheering us on from sidelines were Liz Schuck, Teri Pickle, Renee Lewis, and Dianne Bobko.

A good time was had by all.

“This is all about coming home, and taking care of each other,” said President Irwin, who helped kick off the holiday with a little gathering for club members in back of the Coastside Community Water District building. “This is where we live. This place, this time, this event, is where the family of Half Moon Bay comes … Together we are all coming home, (in) the sharing and supporting and celebrating of each other.”

That was certainly the case with Mike Osborne, a 37-year Rotarian who comes to Half Moon Bay Rotary from Corte Madera and the club of Marin Sunrise, which he proudly noted stood out for having women as charter members back in the day. This was his first big event as a member of the Half Moon Bay club. Rotary, he noted, was something he happily shared with his children.

In this big Fourth event, it was more fun to be a participant than an organizer! “I’m glad I’m not in charge,” laughed Half Moon Bay Rotarian Susan Kealey wryly, looking up and down a packed Main Steet.

Stepping out proudly in the parade was longtime Half Moon Bay Ol’ Fashioned Fourth of July attendee “Uncle Norm” Breshears of Half Moon Bay, decked out in red, white and blue. “It’s a great day to be an American,” he said happily. “Uncle Norm wants YOU!”
