Celebrating St. Pat's at Camerons

Our regular Thursday meeting this week fell on Saint Patrick’s Day so it was booked as an in-person Social Meeting at Cameron's English Pub. It was a warm and grand get together with 18 members and 6 guests. We treated the four regular Life Skills volunteer instructors to the festive lunch (two could attend) and awarded them our Speaker’s gift of a certificate noting 15 children were inoculated against Polio in their names.

Fellowship flowed over the buffet lunch of Corned Beef, Cabbage, Potatoes and Carrots. The horseradish spiced mustard certainly brought a tear to many an eye.

Kevin O’Brien led the group in song after reciting the first five verses of the Dubliner’s seven verse “Seven Nights a Drunk”. The singalong songs were; Sweet Rosie O’Grady, When Irish Eyes Are Smiling and Danny Boy. The event was at its most Irish best during this singing!

President Joe Brennan then shared Limericks he had penned for some members, in the hope they were amused.

(Click on "Read more"below to enjoy all the great limericks from our Irish Poet Joe Brennan and the rest of the article and Club News)

                     UP IN THE AIR
When Bo would tell Dianne his plans were up in the air,
That could mean he could be going  just about anywhere.
She knew to just wait,
It was all up to fate.
Occasionally the plans would put him beyond the stratosphere!

Paul has a practice to advise the college bound set,
On programs and options to make their best bet.
At home he plays it straight,
Not daring to pontificate.
Advising of that sort would not amuse Antoinette!

When asked out, Kevin’s likely to say maybe
Which means he’ll prudently check in with Debbie
It’s not what you think
She won’t make a stink
Their fifty years has given them an easy commaradarie

Liz and Terri are are in the midst of a major remodel
Which in a lesser couple would soon led to the bottle
But they’re camping upstairs
Under a blanket over chairs
And will survive just fine…if the contractor doesn’t dawdle

Heather’s dream is for everyone to donate blood
Her view of success must be like Noah and the flood
But things they come up
And one cannot fill the cup
Especially if on the day you come down with the crud!

Mary is a wonder of efficiency and calendared tight
With mom south and grand kids north there’s always a flight
She maintains quite a pace.
With always a cheerful face.
And is peerless in keeping all things in the Club just right!

Rose is incredibly well connected in our town
Her stewardship of Community Services is renown
So many irons in the fire
But none draw her ire
She does so very much, by comparison I am just a clown.

Dave Dickson is a wise man of few words
He and Marla have family around the world

Cameron makes a living doing what we willingly pay for,
He’s created a vision of old England you feel at the door.
From the decor and the stuff
It is form the heart not a bluff
we thank him for hosting us in this fine parlor

Warren is father to many a wholesome lass,
Citing a rhyming body part would be crass.
So let us declare,
He does it with flair.
And the wonderful results are hard to surpass

Krystlyn is a quick study as president elect,
She will be organized and fun if I am correct.
She has just aced her PETS
And is planning what’s next
Her year will be full so you’d best step up and connect

There once was a traveler named Ginger,
Who certainly has wanderlust in her.
Got a wine shop to boot,
Ain’t life just a hoot.
Her life’s a continuing international adventure!

PS from Joe - It was great to see the comaradarie between our host Cameron Palmer and our past President Warren Barmore as they were both HMB High alumni and class mates in the Class of 1983. I pointed out to Cameron that I too was an alumni and when I told him the year he responded, "Oh, the year I was born…"

Club Meeting - March 17, 2022

Inspiration Thought - Dick Charnock

Let us take a moment to remember all the religions represented in the worldwide Rotary family. Let us recall that when we were invited to join a Rotary Club, we were not asked if we were a Protestant, a Hindu, a Muslim, a Jew, a Catholic, or a Buddhist. We were not asked because all religions are welcome in the Rotary family. Please join me in a moment of reflection and thanks with these words:
With our friends beside us, and no person beneath us,
With the bonds of Rotary between us, and our worries behind us,
With our goals before us, and no task beyond us,
With a thirst for knowledge, and a dream for a polio-free world,
We are thankful for our Rotary friends and the meal we are about to share. Thank you. (Chris Offer, 5040 District Governor)

And a little humor as well:

When we drink, we get drunk.
When we get drunk, we fall asleep.
When we fall asleep, we commit no sin.
When we commit no sin, we go to heaven.
So, let's all get drunk, and go to heaven!
