Program: Filling In - MAGIC OF THE COASTSIDE 2016 Update
The program scheduled for March 3 fell through but Half Moon Bay Rotarians rose to the occasion by giving and hearing updates on preparations for the Magic of the Coastside, scheduled for April 2:
In the area of Sponsors, Shana “Rusty” Reilly-Pond, Sponsor Chair reported that we only need $800 more to reach the new goal of $17,000. “Raffle King” Wes Burgess had suggested giving a free raffle ticket to encourage members to buy the last number of $100 sponsorships to fill that need. She has collected $9,100 already of the promised sponsorships. Rose Serdy will serve as the actual Sponsor Hostess at the event as Rusty cannot be there that evening.
In PR campaigning, marketing and ticket sales, Mary Corcoran and Dianne Bobko earned the distinction of being dubbed “marketers extraordinaire” for the work they have done. Dianne reported that posters and road signs are ready to go. Wes reported that he and Doug Adams planned to put up road signs after the meeting today. Charise McHugh asked for help in putting up other road signs, which are stashed in Ginger Minoletti's office.

The Service Above Self Award: “Dynamo” Dianne Bobko sent messages to Service Above Self nominees and their sponsoring organization, encouraging event attendance, and Bonnie Dunham took photos of three of the nominees so far for the event. The fourth person is away and Bonnie will get hers as soon as she returns.
Youth Service Above Self Award: Warren Barmore has received four nominees for the Planning Committee to review and identify a recipient.
“Raffle King” Wes and Brian Lee will continue to sell tickets to Club Members; we are at $1,400 currently. As Wes cannot be at the event, Brian will need a partner to help in ticket sales.
Food for the event: From Linda Crose-Andersen and reported by Liz Schuck, the menu will include barbecue tri tip, shrimp skewers, red beans and rice (a New Orleans specialty),green salad, Brussels sprouts, rolls, and beignets (a New Orleans delicacy similar to a doughnut but even tastier). Our regular caterers have generously agreed to donate appetizers, and Linda is working getting two more. Ten members of the Interact Club, so far, have signed up to help out at the event as servers. Mary Corcoran attended their meeting yesterday to get them to help. She also gave them letters for their parents to invite them to consider attending to support the effort and their students. We stil need more students to serv and we need Genius Kids for our Auction and Mary had no one volunteer to do that.
The bar: Not the legal but the liquid kind: Liz reported for Joe Brennan that he had obtained 54 bottles of wine left over from our recent spaghetti feed to get us started. Of course there will be more. The bar will open at 5 p.m. that evening.
Auction: As reported from the work of Beau Donegan, there are, at this point 26 items for auction, with a current value of $7,200 which could potentially net $2,500 for the event. The goal is 100 items for auction, and we need a lot more to reach that goal. Beau and Liz are helping members register their donated items for the auction. Andrew Boyd-Goodrich is also working the Auction
There is a need for Genius kids to help out guiding attendees through the process of bidding online for the auction items. They will be provided with iPads, computers, smart phones, etc. or know how to use these to help more people keep bidding through the evening. Warren, or Mike Inglis, can you help us find some students for this? THEY ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE EFFORT!
Event location: Liz said that she has confirmed with the I.D.E.S. Society that Farm Day is scheduled the day before our event, and she will see if and when we can use the hall on the night before our event to set up and prepare.
Entertainment: Dianne reported that John Evans contacted the Band for her to check on her proposed shscedule for the evening and they have agreed to the suggested schedule.
Setup and break down: Paul Wrubel and Doug Adams are in charge of this and WILL NEED HELP. LOOK FOR A CHANCE TO SIGN UP COMING SOON!

The old men are all dead. It is the young men who say yes or no. He who led on the young men is dead. It is cold, and we have no blankets; the little children are freezing to death. My people, some of them, have run away to the hills, and have no blankets, no food. No one knows where they are – perhaps freezing to death. I want to have time to look for my children, and see how many of them I can find. Maybe I shall find them among the dead. Hear me, my Chiefs! I am tired; my heart is sick and sad. From where the sun now stands I will fight no more forever.
