Happy/ Not So Happy News

Update on Renee—Liz reports that Renee has help at home and will be starting chemo soon; she sends hugs to all.

Heather is unable to attend today, but sends her best wishes.

Foundation Board Report—Dianne reported the following: (The rest of the meeting was devoted to discussion of the Board's recommendations.)

The recommendation of the Foundation Board is to donate to the Coastside Crisis Fund that is jointly coordinated by Coastside Hope, Abundant Grace and ALAS.  The decision to choose this Fund for our  Club’s support is because we already had made a commitment to Coastside Hope to fund the project they had submitted to our Foundation linked to Magic of the Coastside. In addition we consider Abundant Grace one of the organizations we are also closely connected to through our participation in their monthly breakfast for the underserved.

Therefore, the Foundation Board feels that CCF is the best way to support our community at this very difficult and challenging time.

As stated by Eric de Bode in a recent email regarding CCF, "Our aim is to provide support for our neighbors who don't qualify for government support during this crisis. People should be referred to Coastside Hope, and if they don't qualify they receive a referral to ALAS who has 4 staff to do needs assessments. Abundant Grace is collecting, tracking and reporting on funds collected and given to ALAS for disbursement. This is a direct and fast way to get support to people who need it most!”

It was decided that the money donated will come from new donations of individual Club Members to our Club Foundation and given to CCF during the week of April 20.  Donation checks should be endorsed to: Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay Foundation with the memo line on the check stating:  Disaster Relief - Covid -19.

Send your check to:
Edward A Daniels, Esq.
625 Miramontes Street, Suite 106
Half Moon Bay, CA 94019

Email : ead@coreylaw.com

After the meeting Dave Dickson offered to take credit cards through the Club's Square account.  If you prefer this method, please contact him at dave@dicksonzoo.com to have him call you or text or call him at call 9258997668.

In order to make the money available as soon as possible, mail your check or get your cash to Ed or you CC information to Dave no later than Friday, April 17 so the donation can be made the week of April 20.

Members who make donations will receive a letter for tax purposes from our Foundation.

Discussion followed with members who added information and suggestions.  President Ed will send an email to all members with the plan going forward for this important effort.

Announcements

Charise  sent a note via email about her newly published  book and wants Club Members to know about it and where they can get it.

Hi Rotary,
Here is the link to the book that I have been writing the last 18 months. When I read excerpts at a meeting, everyone seemed to like it and several wanted it when it came out.
😊

The Merchants, The Actress, And The Daughter: Two Families Journey From 1635-2019

This is a book that tells the stories and history of two families with very interesting tales. It is more a book of stories with the necessary history woven through. Some stories are very interesting historically while others are down right hilarious. All are true to the best of the author’s knowledge, and there are some life learned lessons and a sprinkling of sage advice. The hope is that it will entertain, but also chronicle the history of these two families and their descendants.

Thought you might be interested.
