COWBOY CHRISTMAS at The Odd Fellows' Lodge

Joe Brennan was our Oddfellows host for the annual cowboy Christmas luncheon. The event took place in the histoic Odd Fellows Hall which was the original City Hall and the venue for the incorporation of the city. Joe introduced Larry Giacomono who read the Oddfellows benediction which clearly expressed sentiments that are shared by both Rotarians and Odd Fellows.
Joe then introduced our cowboy poets. First was Rotary past president Dave "Big Dave" Andrews, hailing from Elko, Nevada. After giving us a detailed lesson in Stetson hat etiquette; felt in the winter, straw in the summer; the Hollywood pinch is a no no and never set your hat down on it's brim, He proceeded to give us an extemporaneous, passionate rendition of "Call of the West" by Stan Ridgeway. Larry Giacomono had a tough act to follow, but follow he did. His original poems were titled "To ride another day" and "Oh, the mistakes we made". The latter poem was composed after a late night talk with an ex-girlfriend.
Joe then proceeded to raffle off the last of the Oddfellow's Pumpkin Festival pumpkin fudge, the proceeds of which go to the OddFellows scholarship fund.
Mary Corcoran then led us in a rousing round of Christmas caroling and all fa la la' d out we left, wondering what the heck is "Figgie pudding".

The following is the poem "To Ride Another Day" which members had requested be printed:
To Ride Another Day
Here we are again, buckaroos and buckarettes
Counting all our blessings, and covering all our bets
As two thousand sixteen draws to a close
We look around and take notice of those
We'll see not again, at least not in this here life, but
in that great campsite, far up in the sky
We'll gather round the campfire, no longer to cry.
With a cup of strong coffee we will toast all our steeds
That got us here safely, in spite of our deeds.
Day in day out, with the thundering herd we ride
And not to yield despite the sweat, dust and rawhide.
And thanks we will give to the Trail Boss up above
Who guided our journey, when push came to shove
So here's to us standing, scarred, bruised and so bent
To ride another day together until we are spent.
